Does this Sound Good to you? Yes, Mary, But, How Can I Relieve My Stress? You can experience and learn how to do several things to shift your stressful feelings any time you want. Some of these are light-hearted things you probably already do without realizing how powerful they are. Some techniques go deeper. To make this clearer........
Here's an Example of How I've Helped Someone Relieve Stress:
I was driving to the hospital with my Mother in the front seat and "Jane" in the back seat of the car. My heart was sick because the doctor had called to confirm my Mom's diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, but Jane and I agreed it would be best to let the doctor tell Mom in person, so she could ask questions. We were getting closer to the large city where the hospital was located, when Jane said, "Mary, when we get to the hospital, you need to go straight to the Emergency Room. I am either having a heart attack or a panic attack". I said, "Do we need to call 911 while I drive, or do you want me to just keep driving?" (Mercifully, though my Mom wore hearing aides, she did not hear this conversation). Jane said, "No, just drive to the ER."
In a God Wink, I had just completed my training in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) earlier that month. So I quickly told Jane I had just been trained in a technique sometimes used to help people with stress and emotional blocks. She agreed to try it.
While I drove, I talked her through tapping a point with phrases like, "Even though I feel like I am either having a panic attack or a heart attack, I deeply love and accept myself completely." And eventually, "I'm starting to feel calmer, and I deeply ..." And so on. After 1 round, I asked how she felt. She said, "Better." We did another round and she said she was alright and we did not need to go to the ER. This occurred within 3.5-5 minutes. EFT is one of several techniques we will touch on in the 3 Day Challenge. Repeating the phrases about the feelings you are having while tapping an accupressure point helps to lessen the emotional intensity of your situation or memory, while also reinforcing your self-acceptance. When you do this, It has a calming effect.
